Fixed and Adaptive Model-Based Controllers for Active Queue Management

چکیده
In this paper we present new model-based controllers for active queue management (AQM) supporting TCP ows. Our control design is based on linearization of a previously developed TCP model using uid ow and stochastic di erential equations. An AQM using a simple PI controller is shown to signi cantly outperform RED AQM. However, we show that both AQMs are unable to maintain performance as the number of ows increases. To overcome this, we introduce a special type of adaptation, the externally excited adaptive loop (EEAL) controller. In comparison to the PI AQM, the EEAL AQM exhibits faster response to ow changes, and is able to give a dynamic estimate of the number of ows.

متن کاملNeuron PID: A Robust AQM Scheme
We introduce a novel and robust active queue management (AQM) scheme based on a Proportional-IntegralDerivative (PID) controller, called Neuron PID, that uses an adaptive neuron to tune its parameters. We demonstrate by simulations that Neuron PID stabilizes the router queue length regardless of the round trip delay better than other well-known AQM algorithms.

Wireless Body Sensor Networks (WBSNs) involve a convergence of biosensors, wireless communication and networks technologies. WBSN enables real-time healthcare services to users. Wireless sensors can be used to monitor patients’ physical conditions and transfer real time vital signs to the emergency center or individual doctors. Wireless networks are subject to more packet loss and congestion. T...

We introduce a novel and robust active queue management (AQM) scheme based on a fuzzy controller, called hybrid fuzzy-PID controller. In the TCP network, AQM is important to regulate the queue length by passing or dropping the packets at the intermediate routers. RED, PI, and PID algorithms have been used for AQM. But these algorithms show weaknesses in the detection and control of congestion u...
متن کاملPer-class queue management and adaptive packet drop mechanism for multimedia networking
In this paper, we propose a per-class queue management and adaptive packet drop mechanism in the routers for Internet congestion control. We model active queue management as an optimization problem and our proposed mechanism provides congestion control and fairness for different types of traffic flows. An optimal packet drop rate is obtained to maintain a relatively small queue occupancy, which...
